BACKGROUND/ HISTORY

Katibunga Monastery is a Benedictine Monastery which is in Northern Province of Zambia. It is located in the very remote area. Since its foundation, the monastery dedicated itself in giving hope to the poor people living in this remote area surrounded by heavy forest. The Monastery put first priority in education. The Monastery built a block of three class rooms, a house for the headmaster, and five small houses for teachers and constructed the watermill. The monastery is surrounded by more than 21 villages that comprises population of 30,000 villagers; all these villages get the basic needs from the monastery though in a very low scale.

THE KATIBUNGA PRIORY MONASTERY (MISSIONS)

·        Provide basic education to the poor

·        Help women to stand up

·        Take away the death risks of mothers and children during delivery

·        Give self awareness of HIV/AIDS to the poor.

·        Reduce the mortality of mothers and children because of poor health care.

·        Help the poor to help by themselves. (Education, Agriculture, Healthcare and fishing)

WHY TO BUID A HEALTH CARE CENTER

Katibunga area is as far as 85 kilometers away to an existing hospital. Women have to walk all those kilometers for Maternity cases. Many times, women deliver babies at just because the hospital is far away. There are some cases whereby women deliver babies on the way because of lack of proper knowledge of maternity before it becomes due, some deriver babies on the way just because of the distance from their remote houses to where the hospital is located.

Many children suffer from malnutrition; this is because there is no center for health care education. The number of deaths for women and children are higher comparing to cities where the access to hospitals is not a problem.

HIV/AIDS is a problem here as well; many people are subjected to the epidemic for lack of education. People who are HIV positive get not proper care.

WHAT IS NEEDED

Katibunga Monastery after being involved in education, now would like to save the lives of the poor. Many people are dying because of the lack of healthcare; it is pity that most of them are children and women.. The monastery would like to build a Health Care Center that will have the following facilities.

1.      Maternity Ward

2.      Children Ward

3.      HIV/AIDS Unity

4.      Medication section

5.      Counseling and Seminars Unity

6.      Laboratory Unity

7.      Dental Clinic

NB. Four phases will be taken to materialize the project (1-5)

WHAT THE MISSION CAN DO TO MATERIALIZE THE PROJECT

1.      Provide the transportation of the materials to the site

2.      Motivate the local people to be involved in the project

3.      Supervise the project

4.      Communicate with the government

5.      Provide man power (monks)

Katibunga Monastery would like to put all its energy to make the difference to these poor forgotten people. The amount needed is $ 215,000/=, we are need your assistance of any amount to commerce the project..
